Busy, busy.

  • Easter Triduum - a wonderful Passover Seder on Thursday with hubby after kids went to bed - definitely a new family tradition.  Next year will use smaller wine glasses.
  • Still doing my P90X workouts faithfully, with the exception of today.  Haven’t slept in about 3 days and I need a mental break.
  • Easter egg hunt after Mass on Sunday morning.
  • Beloved company for a fun Easter dinner.
  • Roseola times two.
  • Celebrating Fr. A’s birthday.
  • Mom visiting for a few days.
  • brother-in-law got an assignment to train as a helicoptor pilot for the Marines
  • Ordering new Montessori materials - hooray!  I actually think I’m done buying what I wanted for our classroom, in all categories, at least for 2 more years anyway.

What did you order? My manuals and a small portion of my materials are coming today and I keep watching the window for the UPS man. I’m such a nerd!

Here’s what I ordered:

(From montessoriequipment.com)
Brown Stair
Pink Tower
Color Tablets (1&2)
Red Rods
Cylinder Blocks
Geometric Cabinet (w/presentation tray and cards)
Knobless Cylinders
Metal Insets
Cut-Out Numerals & Counters
Number Rods
Numbered Spindle Boxes (w/spindles)

And from Alisonsmontessori:

Sandpaper Letters (lower and uppercase and phonograms)
Sandpaper numbers

From montessori research and development:

all the early childhood albums
pink reading program
botany nomenclature
zoology nomenclature

After all my months of research, it’s so fun to finally be making purchases and getting started!

Didn’t you find Karen’s materials lists so helpful? (I saw your post…)

Okay, this is long enough. I suppose I could have just emailed you! :)

The past 2 years I’ve mostly purchased little things, a lot of practical life materials, and things for the environment - shelving and the like. (I registered as a school with montessoriservices.com) I made what I could - like limited bead material, which took forever but only cost a few dollars! I had never actually purchased “real” Montessori materials until this week. The older 2 boys are both _really_ ready for them, and although hubby has a lot of wood-working tools & skills, he has absolutely no time right now to make anything. So, I got:

grading tactile tablets
baric tablets
smelling bottles
number rods w/ wooden number tablets
brown stair
knobless cylinder
binomial & trinomial cubes
golden bead chains of 100 & 1000
multiplication & division boards

also, a color resemblance sorting task

I’m making fabric boxes and sound cylindars (with 35 mm film containers!) and a few other little things. I also recently got most of the steps for Childsize Masterpieces - love those! Sometimes I think I’m more excited about the materials than the kids are - but as you’ll see, it is such a joy to watch them work.
