5yo: “why doesn’t the mail come on Sundays?”
me: “Don’t you think the postal workers should have a day off?”
5yo: “yes, except on days when the next Netflix video is coming…”

And the other day, (I never thought I’d see this,) I found these boys like this:

Yes, they are nursing their bears! They’re gonna hate this picture some day…

today is a good day

Today has been a good day.

That doesn’t mean that I felt great, the toddlers didn’t throw any tantrums, nothing got spilt, everyone behaved perfectly, I didn’t lose my temper, or we won the lottery. Or that I learned to write without using double negatives.

If I were to judge a good day by any of those criteria, then I’d never have any good days.

Today we were blessed with health, shelter, clothing, food, and employment. We made some very positive changes in our house today, thanks to the inspirations gleaned while reading the book Real Learning last week. The children and I gathered in the morning and offered our day to God, prayed for the whole world, and asked Mary to pray for us and help us to be good. We prayed a decade of the rosary, aided by candlelight and posters. We sat together on the couch this morning and read a really good book together. We prayed an Angelus before lunch. We spent time outside. We washed, dried, and painted gourds. We had a very nice tea-time together for once. In the past, I have “provided” tea time; today I joined in completely, and gave the kids my full attention and enjoyed our conversation.

Today, despite the nation’s economic worries, the uncertainty of the upcoming election, and all my failures, it was a very good day. I am very blessed.

me: “Do you want to sing a song before you go to sleep?”

3yo: “yes, but it can only be Salve Regina.”

[we sing.]

3yo: “What is dull cheese?”

I can’t sing O Dulcis without smiling now!

I heard this story and wanted to share the link if anyone is interested.

Jeff Dodd was a man from Wisconsin, father of 4 and free-lance writer who died Sept. 25th of cancer at the age of 36. He kept a blog here and wrote about his battle. He wrote a “final” post for his wife to add after his death. Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord.
